I am the youngest of five children, we are all baby boomers, and we were latch key kids during the 1950s and 1960s during our elementary to high school days. As latch key kids we at least had each other to fend for ourselves and therefore felt fortunate. However, that often meant we had to cook our own meals until our parents came home late in the evenings. Our father was a restauranteur and our mom was a program manager for the federal government. Our cookware of choice was Le Creuset because it did exceptionally well for one pot cooking, you could use it like a crock pot, a dutch oven, a cast iron skillet with a non-stick nature, Le Ceuset ROCKS! Now as a father of 19 year old twins I have taught both of them how to cook and in college they are the only ones in their houses that do cook and they take great pride in their cooking prowess. When I first dated and then married my wife I did all the cooking then as well. Now she has grown into a quite a good cook and she too has learned the love for Le Creuset
A Delicious Send-Off to Winter
This weekend marks the final days of competition in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. For more than two weeks, athletes from around the world have amazed us on the snow and ice with record-breaking performances and inspiring attempts.
As you get your last fix of the Olympic-caliber winter sports for the next four years, it's the perfect opportunity to invite some friends over for a watching party. And since you're hosting, you can send off the winter with one last comfort-food classic for the whole group, like these incredible burgers.
Congratulations to all the athletes!
The Doufeu
Do you ever wonder what to cook in the beautiful and incredibly functional Le Creuset Doufeu?
Our friend Nancy over at Good Food Matters (great blog about all things food) has cooked up an incredible pork shoulder that is perfect in this French oven...
Great Meals for a Great Cause
The kitchen is often home to some of life's most meaningful gatherings. Here at Le Creuset, we especially like to recognize when people gather in the kitchen to make delicious food - and support a special cause in the process. Recently, a group of students from Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee, participated in the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee's outreach program for teens. The program focuses on cooking with healthy, fresh and local ingredients - and with this three-day course, these students cooked first for their own class, then for their families and finally for patrons of a special Friday First Harvest Cafe to raise money for the food bank's community outreach.
These students should be proud of their efforts, and their work with Second Harvest Food Bank is an inspiring example of what can happen when we gather in the kitchen for a great cause!
